Enugu Police Arrest Eight, Recover Stolen Vehicles In Crackdown On Robbery Gangs

The Enugu State Police Command has arrested eight suspected robbers and recovered eight stolen vehicles in a string of coordinated operations across the state.

Police spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the breakthrough on Friday, describing it as part of the command’s intensified efforts to dismantle criminal gangs terrorising residents of Enugu and its environs.

Among the arrests was a three-man gang, Eze Obinna, Jideofor Igwumba, and Martina Okwor Ada, caught with a Toyota Highlander stolen in Trans-Ekulu and already refurbished for sale in Anambra.

In another operation, police intercepted a gang along the Udi/Ozalla Road, arresting Somadina Udeh and recovering two Toyota Hiace buses allegedly stolen in Udi.

The Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad also nabbed 42-year-old Chigozie Ebisike, whose confession led to the recovery of three vehicles, including a Lexus 350, alongside fake registration documents and number plates.

Earlier in the month, three suspects were arrested for robbing victims of a motorcycle and phone at Amokpu-Nike; they have since been arraigned and remanded.

Commending the operatives, Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, vowed to sustain the crackdown until Enugu is free of criminal gangs.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies.
