The Anambra State Government has urged residents to embrace its telemedicine services, pledging stronger investment in digital health to close gaps in healthcare delivery, especially in rural and underserved areas.

Health Commissioner, Dr Afam Obidike, made the call during an interactive session with 42 doctors on the programme, warning that anyone sabotaging the initiative would face sanctions, including removal from the State Health Agency.

He said telemedicine allows patients to consult doctors virtually, access prescriptions, and get lifesaving advice without travelling long distances, making it a cost-effective tool for emergencies and areas with weak health infrastructure.

To strengthen the scheme, doctors will undergo continuous retraining while the government invests in digital infrastructure, internet connectivity, and technical support.

Dr Obidike praised the young professionals driving the project, describing their passion as vital to delivering modern healthcare.

Doctors under the scheme, including Dr Chinonso Nwosu and Dr Chieze Collins, highlighted challenges such as poor device-handling skills, weak coordination, and low public awareness.

They urged more training and media campaigns through radio, TV, and newspapers to reach more residents.

The government has released dedicated telemedicine hotlines: +234 704 866 3726, +234 704 019 9716, and +234 913 578 2822.
