NWFL Restores Nationwide League, Sets Registration Timeline For 2025 Season

The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) has confirmed the return of the Nationwide League for the 2025 season, two years after its last outing.

The third tier of women’s football, which was scrapped in 2024 and briefly replaced by the now-suspended States League, will run from 3 to 12 October 2025, with the host venue to be announced soon.

Registration opens on 19 August and closes on 26 September 2025, with clubs required to submit entries to operations@thenwfl.com. No late entries will be accepted.

NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, said the reinstatement was approved by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and hailed it as a crucial move for grassroots football.

“The NWFL Nationwide is vital to talent discovery and development, allowing grassroots clubs and players to compete and progress to higher levels,” Shabi stated.
The development comes under the leadership of NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, whose board approved the return of the league to strengthen the women’s football structure in Nigeria.
