Nigeria’s Florence Olarinoye Lifts Six Golds At Africa Junior/Youth Weightlifting Championship
Nigeria’s medal haul at the ongoing 2025 Africa Junior and Youth Weightlifting Championship in Accra, Ghana, soared on Monday as Florence Olarinoye dominated the 58kg female category, clinching six gold medals.
The 2023 National Youth Games champion and 2024 National Sports Festival silver medallist claimed three golds in the Junior event and another three in the Youth category. Olarinoye lifted 71kg in snatch, 86kg in clean and jerk, and recorded a combined total of 157kg to seal her remarkable feat.
Her victory brings Nigeria’s overall tally to eight gold and one silver medal. Earlier on Monday, Ezenwa Chinaza Cecilia set the pace by winning two golds and a silver in the 49kg class after lifting a total of 135kg.
The medal presentation will take place today at the Ga Mashie Hall, Trust Sports Emporium, Accra.
The Championship, which runs from 15–22 August, comes just days after Dr Ibrahim Abdul Aladi was re-elected as President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation during its 2025 Elective Congress.
