IGP Egbetokun Strengthens Cybersecurity Drive With Fintech Partnership

In a bold move to secure Nigeria’s digital space and boost investor confidence, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has sealed stronger ties with the nation’s financial technology leaders and the Presidency.

Meeting at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the IGP hosted the Special Assistant to the President on ICT Development and Digital Innovation, Mr Tokoni Peter Igoin, alongside top executives from PalmPay, OPay, and TrikaHealth.

The high-powered session focused on enhancing cybersecurity, combating cybercrime, and deploying Artificial Intelligence to improve policing.

A key highlight was the readiness of the new NPF National Cybercrime Centre in Bayelsa State for commissioning part of the IGP’s strategy to decentralise cybercrime operations across Nigeria.

Industry leaders hailed the IGP’s progressive approach, crediting his leadership with creating a safer environment for fintech growth, fostering investor trust, and enabling responsible tech innovation.

Reaffirming his commitment, IGP Egbetokun said protecting fintech platforms is central to safeguarding citizens, businesses, and the economy.

He pledged that sustained collaboration would enhance the Force’s capacity to respond to evolving cyber threats.

In a separate engagement, the IGP welcomed postgraduate alumni from Al Hikmah University’s Centre for Peace and Security Studies his former classmates, who commended his strides in community policing, technological advancement, and crime reduction.

They pledged intellectual support to strengthen policy and strategy for national security.
