Edo Govt Fires Back At PDP Over ‘Baseless’ Criticism

The Edo State Government has hit back at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dismissing its recent criticism of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration as “baseless, ill-informed, and laughable.”

In a strongly worded statement signed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the government accused the PDP of hypocrisy, claiming the party squandered opportunities during its years in power and left Edo “in ruins” through corruption and mismanagement.

Itua insisted that Governor Okpebholo has prioritised purposeful governance, with every kobo spent on official engagements, both local and international, aimed at attracting investment and delivering long-term benefits for the state.

He contrasted this with what he described as the PDP era of “shopping expeditions and family vacations” disguised as official trips.

The statement also took aim at PDP spokesman Chris Osa Nehikhare, labelling him “the least qualified person in Edo State to talk about accountability” and accusing him of defending corruption in past administrations.

Dismissing the PDP as a “political relic” buried by the will of Edo people in the 2024 elections, the government said it would remain focused on infrastructure renewal, restoring investor confidence, and delivering tangible progress “not on the wailings of expired politicians.”
