First Lady Donates ₦110m To Support Kano Crash Victims As Governor Orders Strict Traffic Law Enforcement

Compassion met action this week as Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, donated ₦110 million to support victims of road traffic crashes, with the families of 22 Kano athletes tragically killed in a fatal crash earlier this year set to benefit.

Describing the gesture as “a lifeline”, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, praised the First Lady’s act as a shining example of the Renewed Hope Agenda in action.

He said the support would bring “relief, dignity, and renewed confidence” to the grieving families, and aligned with the UN Decade of Action’s goal on post-crash care.

Meanwhile, in a decisive move to curb road carnage, Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has issued an Executive Order for aggressive enforcement of traffic laws especially compliance with traffic lights—in the Kano metropolis.

The FRSC and the Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) will jointly enforce the directive.

Governor Yusuf stressed that strict enforcement, synergy between agencies, and proactive public education were key to saving lives.

The FRSC has pledged more personnel on high-risk routes, wider public campaigns, and zero tolerance for reckless driving, warning that offenders especially red light runners—will face the full weight of the law.
