Team Nigeria wrapped up the inaugural African School Games in Algiers with a strong finish, clinching 25 medals, 6 gold, 10 silver, and 9 bronze across 10 sports to place fourth overall behind Algeria, Egypt, and Tunisia.

The week-long event was a celebration of youth, talent, and unity across the continent.

For many of Nigeria’s young athletes, it was their first time representing the nation on an international stage.

A major highlight came during the closing ceremony, when Nigeria was handed the host’s flag, confirming it will stage the 2nd edition of the Games in 2027.

Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Bukola Olopade, praised the team’s spirit and performance, calling the Games “a launchpad for future stars.”

“This is more than a medal haul. It’s about inspiring a generation through unity, hard work, and pride,” he added, assuring that Nigeria would deliver a world-class event in 2027.

Team Nigeria will be officially received and celebrated by the National Sports Commission on their return, with further honours planned in recognition of their outstanding achievement.
