ECOWAS Commission President Meets New Chair, President Maada Bio, In Freetown

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. Dr Omar Alieu Touray, has paid a two-day working visit to Sierra Leone, where he was warmly received by the new Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Julius Maada Bio.

Dr Touray’s visit was aimed at updating President Bio on regional developments and aligning on priorities for the year ahead.

Their discussions focused on strengthening ECOWAS support for the Chair’s vision and advancing peace, stability, and economic growth in West Africa.

Also in attendance were key Sierra Leonean government officials, including the Chief Minister, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Planning and Economic Development, and Gender. Dr Touray was accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Mr Abdou Kolley, and was supported by the ECOWAS Resident Representative in Sierra Leone, Ambassador John Azuma.

The Commission President also held strategic meetings with various ministers, reinforcing ECOWAS’ commitment to collaboration and regional integration.
