ECOWAS Parliament Launches Anti-Drug Campaign In Liberia
The Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has taken its fight against drug abuse and mental health challenges to Monrovia, Liberia, as part of a week-long awareness campaign running from 4 to 8 August 2025.
The initiative, which follows similar outreach efforts in Guinea and Sierra Leone earlier this year, is aimed at drawing urgent attention to the rising tide of substance abuse and mental health disorders across West Africa.
Led by a delegation of ECOWAS parliamentarians, and backed by parliamentary staff, the campaign is engaging national stakeholders ranging from government officials and healthcare professionals to youth in recovery, civil society groups, and community leaders.
The delegation is also visiting local treatment centres to better understand the realities on the ground.
The ECOWAS Parliament says the move is part of broader efforts to build a resilient and united West African community, where the health and well-being of young people are prioritised.
