Akwa Ibom First Lady Designate Applauds Dangote Foundation For Rice Donation To The Vulnerable

The First Lady Designate of Akwa Ibom State, Lady Helen Obareki, has extended heartfelt appreciation to the Aliko Dangote Foundation for donating 15,000 bags of rice to vulnerable residents across the state.

Speaking through Hon. Selena Ukpatu, the member representing Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo in the State House of Assembly, Lady Obareki described the donation as a timely intervention in the face of Nigeria’s biting economic realities.

The event took place on Wednesday, 30th July 2025, at the Women Development Centre in Uyo.

“This compassionate gesture will go a long way in easing the feeding burden of many struggling households in Akwa Ibom,” she said, assuring that the rice will reach its intended beneficiaries.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Mrs Eno Akpan, lauded the Foundation for complementing Governor Umo Eno’s food security and social investment efforts, calling the donation a “bold step” in addressing hunger across the state.

Speaking at the event, the Foundation’s Head of Operations, Mr Victor Ejiro, noted that over one million bags of rice have been distributed nationwide as part of the 2025 National Food Intervention Programme.

He emphasised the Foundation’s decades-long commitment to improving lives through health, education, nutrition, and empowerment initiatives.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr Innocent Ntia, who lives with a disability, said the donation was a source of renewed hope for people like him. “This act of kindness reminds us that we are not forgotten,” he said.

Goodwill messages were also delivered by the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Hon. Uwemedimo Udo, and the Governor’s Personal Assistant on People Living with Disabilities, Mr Ubong Ikpe.
