NUJ FCT To Revive Secondary School Press Clubs, Groom Future Journalists
In a visionary move to cultivate the next generation of ethical and professional journalists, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, is set to revive and strengthen press clubs in secondary schools across the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking during an interactive session at Government Secondary School (GSS), Garki, the NUJ FCT Vice Chairman, Comrade Yahaya Ndababo who represented the council—highlighted the importance of laying solid journalistic foundations early.
“Our goal is to promote professionalism from the grassroots by empowering students with journalistic skills and values early on,” he said
The Press Club Revival Project will officially launch on Thursday, 24th July 2025, starting with two pilot schools, marking a significant milestone in the union’s drive to promote ethical journalism among young minds.
Representing the school, Press Club Matron, Mrs Udofia Emauwa Unyime, praised the initiative as a “timely and visionary effort” that will reignite students’ interest in journalism and public discourse.
This effort is a key feature of the 2025 NUJ FCT Press Week, themed “Journalism in a Changing World: Press Freedom, Media, Democracy and the Society.” The week will showcase activities that champion media development, press freedom and civic responsibility, while promoting a vibrant, inclusive media culture from the grassroots level.
