NNL Progress In Line With Ten-Year Football Blueprint – Sunday Dare
Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Akin Dare, has hailed the strides made by the Nigeria National League (NNL), saying they align perfectly with the ten-year football development master plan launched during his time in office.
Speaking with journalists at the just-concluded NNL Super 8, Mr Dare expressed delight at the league’s transformation under the leadership of Mr George Aluo, noting improvements in officiating standards and player performance as clear signs of progress.
“The football ecosystem in Nigeria is taking shape,” he said. “We’ve moved from being ranked 13th in Africa to now sitting between fifth and sixth. That’s no small feat.”
Mr Dare, a seasoned sports journalist from Oyo State, emphasised the need for increased private sector investment to elevate Nigerian football to global standards.
He highlighted the economic potential of the game, drawing parallels with European leagues that have become massive investment magnets.
Commending the Delta State Government for its continued support of sports, particularly under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Mr Dare urged other states to follow suit, saying sports development is a powerful tool to engage youth and curb rising crime.
“The Delta example shows what’s possible when leaders prioritise youth and sports,” he added.
