Imo Leaders Of Thought Warn Against Political Division, Champion Charter of Prosperity
Prominent leaders from across Imo State have raised their voices in unison, condemning the growing political unrest being fuelled by what they described as “self-serving actors hiding under the guise of the Charter of Equity.”
In a strongly worded press statement issued on Saturday, July 12, 2025, key stakeholders from Orlu, Owerri, and Okigwe zones rejected what they called “nocturnal manoeuvres” by certain individuals bent on destabilising the state for personal gain.
The leaders, Rt. Hon. Amara Chyna Iwuanyanwu (Orlu), Hon. Kanayo Onyemechi (Owerri), and Hon. Sam Osuji (Okigwe) asserted that the so-called promoters of equity were, in fact, spreading division and threatening the peace that has been painstakingly built across the state.
“Imo belongs to all of us,” the statement declared. “No group or zone has a superior claim.
We must reject the antics of those stoking ethnic and sectional tensions under the pretence of justice.”
They called on the Imo State Government and citizens of goodwill to resist attempts to derail the progress recorded under Governor Hope Uzodimma’s administration, warning that the continued incitement by political desperadoes could trigger a breakdown of law and order.
While reaffirming their commitment to the Imo Charter of Prosperity, the leaders drew parallels with the development trajectory of Lagos under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, praising Uzodimma for laying a similar foundation for economic growth and good governance.
“We say NO to paid political agents, two-faced town criers, and ‘recharge card’ politicians. Imo deserves better,” they stated.
As tension simmers in the state’s political atmosphere, these leaders are urging calm, unity, and a return to progressive dialogue reminding all that power is not a do-or-die affair.
