Edo State Launches “Operation Flush Out” To Tackle Kidnapping, Cultism
In a bold move to curb the surge in criminal activities, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has launched a special anti-kidnapping and anti-cultism squad across the state.
Codenamed “Operation Flush Out Kidnappers and Cultists,” the new initiative will target the rising menace of abductions and cult-related violence that has plagued communities in Benin City, Ekpoma, Auchi, and other parts of the state.
The operation will be jointly coordinated by the Governor’s Principal Security Officer and Chief Security Officer, working closely with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies.
The Governor also revealed that local squads made up of carefully screened hunters, vigilantes, and even repentant cultists—will be stationed in all 18 local government areas to ensure swift and localised responses to threats.
“This is a battle to reclaim Edo from the hands of criminals,” Governor Okpebholo said. “We will not fold our arms while our people live in fear. The time to act is now.”
The government’s plan includes the deployment of patrol vehicles and motorcycles to boost mobility and quick response, drawing inspiration from a similar successful effort launched in Ekpoma in 2016.
While the Governor has previously offered amnesty to repentant cultists as part of his soft approach to crime, this new initiative signals a tougher stance aimed at restoring investor confidence and public safety.
Residents are hopeful that the decisive action will mark the beginning of a more secure and peaceful Edo State.
