FG Commissions Multi-Specialty Clinic, Unveils Landmark Health Projects At FMC Keffi
In a significant boost to tertiary healthcare delivery in North Central Nigeria, the Federal Government has commissioned a state-of-the-art Multi-Specialty Clinic Complex and several key infrastructure projects at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Keffi.
The ceremony, was led by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, alongside the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr Emmanuel Akabe, who represented the State Governor.
Dr Salako described the facility as a major step forward in delivering on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the health sector.
The new Multi-Specialty Complex, which includes specialist units for ophthalmology, ENT, dental care, and physiotherapy, is expected to significantly expand access to expert services in the region.
“This isn’t just about building infrastructure—it’s about building hope and improving lives,” Dr Salako said. “With added features like a solar-powered borehole and a distilled water generator donated by the Government of Japan, we’re combining innovation with sustainability.”
He also announced plans for a National Stakeholders Dialogue on Power in the Health Sector later this month to address energy challenges that hinder effective healthcare delivery.
Deputy Governor Akabe praised the Federal Government’s intervention, noting that FMC Keffi serves patients from over 13 states. “The demand here is huge. These projects couldn’t have come at a better time,” he said.
He also confirmed that the Federal Government has approved the takeover of the Lafia Specialist Hospital as a new federal teaching hospital.
FMC Keffi’s Chief Medical Director, Dr Yahaya Baba Adamu, expressed gratitude for the support and gave updates on several ongoing projects including a new 116-bed lying-in ward, a trauma centre, a neuropsychiatric complex, and a modern radiodiagnostic unit.
Dr Adamu also called for improved staff welfare and support for training, stressing that motivated personnel are key to delivering quality care.
The event drew attendance from top government officials, traditional rulers, representatives of the Emir of Keffi, and the Japanese Embassy. Stakeholders hailed the developments as a turning point for FMC Keffi, with growing expectations that it will soon become one of the country’s leading referral centres.
