Super Falcons Soar Past Tunisia With 3-0 Victory In WAFCON Opener

Nigeria’s Super Falcons kicked off their 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in style on Sunday with a commanding 3-0 win over Tunisia at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco.

The nine-time champions wasted no time asserting their dominance, with star striker Asisat Oshoala finding the back of the net in the 4th minute.

The goal came from a perfectly placed free kick delivered by Rinsola Babajide, who proved instrumental throughout the match.

Babajide wasn’t done yet—just before half-time, she turned scorer, capitalising on a loose ball and firing past Tunisian goalkeeper Soulaima Jobrani in added time to notch her first-ever goal at a senior international tournament.

The icing on the cake came in the 84th minute when a pinpoint cross from Ashleigh Plumptre found Chinwendu Ihezuo, who calmly slotted home to seal a comfortable victory for the Falcons.

With this result, Nigeria climbs to the top of Group B, sending a strong message to rivals as they chase a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

The team will now look to build on this momentum as they prepare for their next group fixture.
