“She Said I Needed Two Cars To Marry Her” – Actor Afeez ‘Saka’ Oyetoro Reflects On Tough Early Years
Veteran Nollywood actor and beloved comic figure, Afeez Oyetoro—popularly known as Saka—has opened up about the challenges he faced at the start of his acting journey and how those struggles once crushed his confidence.
In a candid conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the actor revealed that his early years in the industry were marked by severe financial hardship.
He said the lack of income not only made it difficult to sustain himself but also made approaching women nearly impossible.
“I was acting purely out of passion,” Saka said. “There was no money, no recognition, and society didn’t take us seriously. We had no idea how to make a living from the craft.”
A lecturer at the Theatre Arts Department of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED), Saka recalled how his circumstances at the time made some women question his future prospects.
One woman he hoped to marry even laid down a harsh condition: “She said she would only marry me if I had two cars.”
Despite the setbacks, Saka remained committed to his passion—and today, he stands as one of the most recognisable and respected faces in Nigerian entertainment.
