NAWOJ FCT Urges Action On Out-of-School Children Crisis
As Nigeria joins the world in celebrating Children’s Day, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), FCT Chapter, has called for urgent and sustained action to tackle the alarming number of out-of-school children nationwide.
In a statement signed by its Chairperson, Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang, NAWOJ FCT described children as the “heartbeat of our great nation” and emphasised the need to secure their future through education. She urged all levels of government to intensify efforts to reduce Nigeria’s staggering out-of-school children figure, which UNICEF currently puts at 18.3 million — the highest in the world.
“Children are the promise of a brighter tomorrow,” Ikpang said. “We must create inclusive, innovative systems that allow every child to thrive, shine, and soar.”
Reaffirming NAWOJ FCT’s commitment to advocacy and awareness, she called on all stakeholders, government, civil society, and communities, to work collectively in safeguarding every child’s right to education, protection, and development.
“We envision a Nigeria where no child is left behind, where every dream is protected, and every future secured,” the statement read.
