FME Reaffirms Commitment To Safe Exam Conditions Amid Viral Video Outrage

The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has reiterated its dedication to ensuring a safe and conducive environment for examinations across Nigeria, following public outrage over a viral video showing students writing an examination under unacceptable conditions.

The video, which surfaced on social media platforms, captured a distressing scene from Unity Secondary School in Asaba, Delta State, where students were seen taking an examination in an environment deemed grossly inappropriate for academic assessment.

The examination was reportedly conducted under the supervision of the Delta State Ministry of Education.

In response, the Minister of State for Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, condemned the situation, describing the setting as “totally unacceptable.” He affirmed that the Ministry is taking the matter seriously and will leave no stone unturned in addressing it.

According to the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, Boriowo Folasade, the Federal Ministry of Education is currently liaising with the Delta State Government and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to investigate the incident and ensure appropriate corrective measures are taken.

She further assured that the outcome of the investigation will be made public in due course, as part of the Ministry’s commitment to transparency and accountability.

The Ministry reaffirmed its pledge to improve educational infrastructure and create environments conducive to learning and assessment. This, it stated, aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for transforming the education sector.

As the investigation unfolds, the FME calls on all stakeholders in the education ecosystem to prioritise the welfare and dignity of Nigerian students, ensuring that no learner is subjected to inhumane learning or testing conditions.
