The wife of the Anambra State Governor and founder of the Nonye Soludo Healthy Living initiative, Dr Mrs Nonye Soludo, has urged principals and teachers across the state to champion and consistently promote healthy living practices in their schools.

Speaking in Awka during the inauguration of 100 Healthy Living School Ambassadors and the launch of the Community School Garden initiative, Mrs Soludo passionately appealed to educators to prioritise the health and hygiene of students, especially young girls.

“I don’t want to hear that any female student is stained while in school,” she said. “It breaks their confidence and disrupts learning. That’s why my foundation is providing sanitary pads to help address this challenge.”

Mrs Soludo, who proudly noted her roots in education being the daughter and wife of teachers stressed the dangers of processed foods and the link between poor nutrition and student fatigue. “When students sleep in class, it’s often because of the synthetic foods they eat. Let’s grow vegetables in our school gardens and teach children to eat what they know.”

She encouraged the newly inaugurated ambassadors to make gardening a daily school culture, cultivating crops like green peppers and vegetables.

According to her, the initiative not only boosts nutrition but also gives pupils a sense of responsibility, with potential proceeds from farm produce benefiting the schools.

“Healthy living should not be a campaign. It should be our way of life,” she concluded.
