ECOWAS, AU Commission Deepen Ties Ahead Of Joint Peace and Security Talks

The ECOWAS Mediation and Security Council (MSC) at Ambassadorial Level met with the African Union Commission’s Peace and Security Secretariat in Addis Ababa, as part of ongoing consultations ahead of the Second Joint Consultative Meeting on Peace and Security, scheduled for 16 May 2025.

Leading the ECOWAS delegation is Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS and Chairman of the MSC at the ambassadorial level, Ambassador Musa Sani Nuhu.

The engagements aim to strengthen coordination between the two regional bodies in addressing shared peace and security challenges across Africa.

The upcoming joint meeting is expected to build on previous efforts, align regional priorities, and enhance collaboration on conflict prevention, mediation, and stabilisation initiatives.

These engagements underscore a growing resolve by African institutions to offer unified, homegrown responses to the continent’s complex security landscape.
