STI: A Roadmap To Nigeria’s National Development – Esuabana
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Mrs Esuabana Nko-Asanye, has affirmed that Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) holds the key to Nigeria’s sustainable development and global relevance.
Speaking at the 22nd National Council on Innovation, Science and Technology (NCIST) meeting in Abuja, Esuabana described STI as more than a policy focus but a practical tool for tackling national challenges and transforming lives.
The meeting with the theme “Research, Develop, Innovate and Commercialise: A Cycle for National Prosperity,” comes at a critical time as the nation grapples with issues such as insecurity, youth unemployment, climate change and energy transition.
Esuabana emphasised that addressing these challenges requires more than policies.
According to her, it demands strong political will, strategic partnerships and deep accountability.
She noted that the Ministry, under Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, is championing President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to steer Nigeria towards socio-economic growth.
The Permanent Secretary, urged stakeholders to move beyond discussions and commit to actionable, measurable outcomes that would lift the country to greater heights.
Permanent Secretary, Nasarawa State Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Mrs Chammang Atinuke, while supporting the call, reaffirmed the state’s alignment with federal efforts to mainstream science across all sectors.
Also speaking, DG of SHETSCO, Prof Paul Onyenaekwe, encouraged collaboration between federal agencies and stakeholders, pledging support for STI deployment to spur innovation and create jobs.
