Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr Hyacinth Alia, has reassured National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state of their safety, urging them to embrace the hospitality of their host communities.

Speaking on Wednesday during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Batch A Stream 1 orientation course in Wannune, Tarka LGA, Governor Alia affirmed that proactive security measures have been put in place to protect corps members throughout their service year.

“You have no reason to fear,” he stated. “Benue people are peace-loving and welcoming. Integrate freely and enjoy the warmth that awaits you.”

Alia, who has consistently condemned violent attacks in the state, particularly those linked to armed herders, called on corps members to serve as ambassadors of peace and positive change. He encouraged them to contribute meaningfully to their places of primary assignment through selfless service.

The governor also applauded the NYSC management for their commitment to youth development, particularly in entrepreneurship and skills acquisition.

In her remarks, NYSC State Coordinator Mrs Garba Veronica thanked the governor for his unwavering support and urged the corps members to maintain high moral standards.

“As you move to your various locations, be worthy ambassadors of the NYSC and avoid behaviours that could bring the scheme into disrepute,” she advised.

The event marked the end of a successful orientation programme, made possible by the dedication of camp officials and support from individuals and organisations across the state.
