Nigeria-Italy Business Summit Set to Reignite Bilateral Trade Ties

All roads lead to the Nigeria-Italy Business Summit this May, as both nations gear up to revive and deepen economic ties through fresh partnerships and investment opportunities.

The summit scheduled for 21st to 23rd May 2025, is spearheaded by its promoter and chairman, Amb. Engr. Augustine Chigbolu, who revealed that the event aims to attract foreign direct investments, generate employment, and expand Nigeria’s export potential.

Speaking to Daily Sun and Sunnewsonline, Chigbolu lamented the current dip in relations, attributing it to years of neglect. “Bilateral relationships are like flowers – if not nurtured, they wither,” he said.

Backed by the Federal Government and supported by the Italian Embassy in Abuja, the summit will focus on sectors including financial services, offering Nigerian banks a chance to explore the Italian market.

Chigbolu also addressed Alitalia’s exit from Nigeria, citing the airline’s bankruptcy, but hinted that its successor, ITA Airways, may consider Nigerian routes soon.

Despite limited private sector funding, the summit is expected to host key players from both countries and reignite a vibrant era of trade and cooperation between Nigeria and Italy.
