HOS Walson-Jack To Empower FCT Women Journalists, Unveils Plans For Landmark Civil Service Conference

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, has pledged to support the training and professional development of female journalists in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), marking a fresh chapter in gender empowerment and workplace inclusivity.

She made the commitment while receiving the FCT Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Comrade Bassey Ita Ikpang, and her delegation during a courtesy visit in Abuja.

“Training is our field, and we are happy that you ask for training,” said Walson-Jack, commending NAWOJ’s dedication to amplifying women’s voices. “We will look into your request and see how we can support you.”

She also announced plans to host a two-day International Civil Service Conference in June, to showcase milestones under the Federal Civil Service Strategy Implementation Plan (FCSSIP 2021–2025). The event is expected to draw over 5,000 participants nationwide and will spotlight innovation, performance management, and professional excellence.

Comrade Ita-Ikpang congratulated the HOS on her groundbreaking appointment and presented a proposal for a two-day training for 150 female journalists, themed “Workplace Diversification: Advancing Women Journalists’ Role in the Newsroom.” The initiative aims to equip women with tools to thrive in media and maintain work-life balance.

Both parties expressed commitment to a lasting partnership focused on national development and empowering women across the media and public service space.
