Dawn of Truth: Nigeria Awaits 2025 International Press Week
In a nation where the truth often comes at a cost, every courageous headline is an act of defiance and every fearless journalist, a beacon of hope.
As the world marks World Press Freedom Day, Nigeria is preparing to celebrate its own guardians of truth.
On 3rd May 2025, the grand banquet hall of Barcelona Hotel in Abuja will host the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ (NUJ) International Press Week a celebration rich with purpose and promise.
With the theme “Dawn of Truth,” this year’s event is more than a festivity.
It is a powerful call to defend press freedom, honour those who report against the odds, and challenge those who threaten the voice of the people.
From harrowing investigative reports to unflinching columns, Nigerian journalists have continued to stand tall in the face of harassment, censorship, and violence.
The evening’s highlight- the Press Freedom Awards will recognise not only fearless reporters but also public officials and citizens whose actions uplift Nigeria’s democratic fabric.
From the prestigious Defender of Press Freedom to the impactful Good Governance and Rural Transformation Awards, the honours will tell stories of courage, service, and transformative leadership.
NUJ President, Alhassan Yahya, captures the moment best: “Press freedom is a catalyst for good governance.” His words echo the core mission of the event which is to inspire a society where transparency thrives and power is held accountable.
As the stage is set, and guests prepare to honour journalism’s finest, one message will ring clear through the night: a free press is the heartbeat of democracy. And in Nigeria, the beat goes on undaunted and unbroken.
