Ministry of Foreign Affairs Debunks Fake Recruitment Scheme Circulating Online

The Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly refuted claims circulating on social media and online platforms alleging that it is currently recruiting staff for Nigeria’s diplomatic missions abroad.

Addressing journalists at a press briefing on Wednesday at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, dismissed the claims as entirely false and misleading.

Ebienfa warned the public to ignore any such messages, emphasising that the ministry does not conduct recruitment exercises independently. “All recruitment into the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is strictly handled by the Federal Civil Service Commission,” he clarified.

He also debunked the fraudulent requirement of a N165,800 payment supposedly for the issuance of a diplomatic passport. “Diplomatic passports are issued free of charge to authorised diplomatic staff,” he stressed.

On the steps being taken to curb the scam, Ebienfa revealed that the ministry has reported the matter to the appropriate security agencies. “We have provided all relevant documents, including the offending website, to enable a thorough investigation and to ensure those behind this deceitful act are brought to book,” he stated.

The ministry assured the public that further disclaimers will be issued via its official social media platforms, and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding both Nigerian citizens and the integrity of the nation’s foreign service.

“Let it be clear—this recruitment advert is a scam. The ministry will continue to work with the authorities to protect Nigerians from falling victim to such fraudulent schemes.” The Spokesperson said
