Jos Gears Up For Kickoff Of Historic NAWFA Women’s League
History is set to be made in Jos as the inaugural season of the Northern Amateur Women Football Association (NAWFA) League kicks off on April 21, 2025.
The much-anticipated launch was originally billed for April 11, but rescheduled to ensure smoother coordination and avoid clashes with state activities.
At Sunday’s official draw ceremony, NAWFA Interim Chairman, Moses Bako, expressed optimism and gratitude, lauding the Plateau State government for hosting the league’s maiden edition.
“This is more than just football it’s about empowering women and spotlighting the future of female football in Northern Nigeria,” Bako said.
Ten teams will battle for glory in two groups, with matchday one lighting up the Saint John College pitch in Jos. Jewel Queens will take on Plateau Queens in the opening match at 8 a.m., followed by Afunkoyo Babes vs. SIK Paragons at 11 a.m., and Joe Kay vs. Blessed KAA at 1 p.m.
With talent set to shine and a new chapter unfolding, Bako reaffirmed NAWFA’s vision: “We are building a future one where female players from the grassroots can rise, shine, and rewrite the story of Northern football.”
