The Federal Government of Nigeria has lauded the efforts of Nigerian healthcare professionals in the diaspora for their selfless medical missions aimed at boosting the country’s healthcare system.

Speaking at the gala night of the 31st Annual Scientific Convention of the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) in Lagos, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, praised the group’s commitment over the past 30 years.

“ANPA’s contributions have strengthened local capacity, supported the underserved, and aligned perfectly with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu,” Dr. Salako stated.

He outlined key reforms under the administration, including increased health funding, improved healthcare worker recruitment, and the launch of the National Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative.

He also called on diaspora professionals to invest in health manufacturing, highlighting tariff-free incentives on imported inputs.

This year’s ANPA medical mission saw over 500 surgeries including rare laparoscopic procedures, dental implants, and 387 cataract removals conducted across major hospitals and clinics in collaboration with local and international partners.

ANPA President, Dr. Cliff Eke, emphasised the need for deeper collaboration between diaspora and home-based physicians to meet the healthcare needs of Nigeria’s 250 million citizens.

The event, also celebrated ANPA’s 30 years of impactful service to the nation.
