In an era where misinformation spreads like wildfire, fake security alerts pose a serious threat to public order.

False alarms can trigger unnecessary panic, disrupt daily activities, and even divert security resources from genuine threats.

The recent case of a fabricated message about terrorist presence in Abuja’s Lugbe area is a stark reminder of the dangers of unverified information.

The Nigeria Police Force has however dismissed the viral social media claims alleging the presence of 79 terrorists in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the imposition of a curfew.

The police, in an official statement, urged the public to disregard the message, calling it a deliberate attempt to incite panic and destabilise peace in the city.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, clarified that intelligence reports from security agencies confirm that no such terrorist presence exists in the area.

He also warned against the spread of false information, stressing that only news from the official police social media handles and verified sources should be trusted.

The police urged residents to exercise caution, verify security-related news before sharing, and report any suspicious activity to the nearest authorities.

Reaffirming their commitment to national security, the Force assured citizens of continued efforts to protect lives and property across the country.
