In an era where technology is the backbone of economic transformation, Nigeria is taking bold steps to strengthen its research-to-industry pipeline.
The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, is deepening its partnership with the European Union (EU) to enhance technological advancements and economic growth.
During a courtesy visit by the new EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Gautier Mignot, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, highlighted Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging EU expertise for research commercialisation and industrial applications.
He emphasised that existing bilateral agreements provide a structured framework for cooperation, focusing on joint research, knowledge sharing, and investment in priority technological areas.
The EU delegation reaffirmed its support, particularly in green hydrogen and green methanol projects, as well as clean energy initiatives.
Ambassador Mignot assured that the EU would provide technical assistance, including training for Nigeria’s scientific officers, to position them competitively on the global stage.
Minister Nnaji expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating that Nigeria’s inclusion in European funding programmes would boost innovation, drive economic growth, create jobs, and reduce poverty.
As Nigeria seeks to transition from a resource-based economy to a knowledge-driven one, this partnership marks a strategic step towards sustainable technological development.
