As part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has announced an ambitious plan to train one million Nigerian youths in conflict management.
The Director General of IPCR, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, revealed this initiative while hosting the executive members of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) in Abuja.
He described the training as a milestone in Nigeria’s efforts toward peacebuilding.
“This year, we turn 25, and to mark this, we aim to equip one million youths with fundamental conflict management skills. The training will be digital, free, and accessible to all with internet connectivity,” Dr. Ochogwu stated.
The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on inclusion, security, and foreign policy under the 4D framework. It is also expected to deepen young Nigerians’ understanding of government policies on conflict resolution.
Emphasising the media’s role in peacebuilding, Dr. Ochogwu said, “If you want to drive change in any society, the media’s role is indispensable.”
In response, DICAN Chairman, Mr. Idehai Frederick, expressed the association’s willingness to collaborate with IPCR.
He highlighted the professionalism of diplomatic correspondents in covering Nigeria’s international engagements and pledged media support for the initiative.
With this bold move, IPCR hopes to empower Nigerian youths with critical skills to foster peace, mitigate conflicts, and contribute to national stability
