Mining and Geosciences: A Pathway to Nigeria’s Economic Growth—Minister Nnaji

The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, has called for stronger collaboration between the government and the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) to drive economic diversification and industrialisation through scientific advancements.
Speaking in Abuja during a courtesy visit by NMGS President, Professor Akinade Olatunji, Nnaji stressed the need for modernising the sector using Artificial Intelligence (AI), renewable energy, and advanced geological surveys.
He highlighted the government’s commitment to reducing raw material exports, promoting local value addition, and investing in research and development (R&D) to foster homegrown solutions.
Professor Olatunji, in his remarks, reaffirmed NMGS’s dedication to leveraging innovation in mining, oil and gas, and agriculture to boost Nigeria’s economic transformation.
The meeting underscored the vital role of science and technology in harnessing the nation’s natural resources for sustainable development.
