The 5th Lake Chad Basin Governor’s Forum is set to take place from January 29-31 in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria, under the theme “Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: Consolidating Gains, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community.”

This critical platform will bring together stakeholders from Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria—regions deeply affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

Discussions will address the multifaceted crisis in the Lake Chad Basin, compounded by extreme poverty, underdevelopment, climate change, and ongoing conflicts.

As of August 2024, the region hosts an estimated 6 million displaced individuals, with Nigeria accounting for 74% of the affected population.

The Forum will explore security and humanitarian challenges while strategising on restoring state authority, fostering peace, and promoting sustainable development.

The event is a beacon of hope for the millions impacted, aiming to strengthen cross-border cooperation and build a resilient future for the Lake Chad Basin community.
