The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the crash involved 31 people and 17 vehicles, including a petroleum tanker, a water tanker, 15 cars, and a tricycle.
The tanker, laden with Premium Motor Spirit, reportedly suffered brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and collide with other vehicles.
The resulting inferno destroyed 11 vehicles and left victims trapped.
Among the rescued, 10 sustained injuries, while three escaped unharmed. Sadly, 18 victims were burnt beyond recognition.
The rescue operation saw the participation of the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, alongside other top officials, including commissioners, FRSC personnel, and law enforcement agencies.
Authorities have diverted traffic to the inward Enugu lane to ease movement as evacuation continues.
