The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed regret over the United States’ announcement of its intent to withdraw from the organization.
In a statement, WHO highlighted the significant role the US has played as a founding member since 1948, contributing to global health milestones such as eradicating smallpox and nearing the elimination of polio.
The partnership between WHO and the US has been instrumental in addressing global health threats, saving lives, and strengthening health systems worldwide.
“WHO plays a crucial role in protecting the health and security of the world’s people, including Americans,” the statement emphasised, urging the US to reconsider its decision.
The organisation also noted its commitment to reforms aimed at improving accountability and impact, with hopes for continued collaboration with the US for the benefit of global health.
