Tougher Days Ahead For Motorists As IGP Egbetokun Orders Stringent Traffic Operations

Following the tragic tanker explosion at Dikko Junction, along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, on January 18, 2025 the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has directed all State Commissioners of Police to strengthen their Motor Traffic Divisions (MTDs) in collaboration with traffic management agencies to enforce compliance with highway regulations.
The IGP, expressed deep condolences to the government and people of Niger State over the devastating accident, which claimed over 73 lives, left several injured, and destroyed shops and other property
Describing the incident caused by a truck loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) which lost control and caught fire as avoidable, the IGP stressed the need for strict adherence to road safety protocols.
He urged vehicle owners to ensure roadworthiness and called on all stakeholders, including transport operators, to prioritise safety to prevent future tragedies.
While mourning the victims, the IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring safer roads for all.
