INEC Outlines Key Electoral Reforms at RECs Meeting

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has outlined key reforms aimed at improving Nigeria’s electoral processes.
The Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who disclosed this at a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Abuja, highlighted recommendations from the 2023 General Election review, focusing on enhancing voter management, election security, and result transmission.
According to him, among the 142 recommendations, 86 require administrative action by INEC, while others involve stakeholders like security agencies, political parties, and the National Assembly.
He said INEC plans to simplify voter accreditation by introducing computer-generated slips and is advocating for diaspora voting and special provisions for election workers and security personnel.
Professor Yakubu, reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to combating voter disenfranchisement and strengthening public trust through better logistics, technology, and voter education.
