Lekki Textile SEZ: A Gateway to 25,000 Jobs and Community Transformation
The Managing Director of the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA), Dr. Olufemi Ogunyemi, says, the Lekki Textile and Garment Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Eyin-Osa, Lagos State, is set to revolutionise the local economy, creating 5,000 direct jobs and over 20,000 indirect opportunities.
Speaking at a compensation ceremony for seven families who contributed 240 acres of land for the project, Dr. Ogunyemi, represented by Mrs. Chika Ibekwe, highlighted the initiative’s far-reaching benefits. “This project will drive job creation, enhance infrastructure, and foster economic growth in alignment with the Federal Government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan,” he said.
Families such as the Olayinka Salamis and Matanmi Mobolajis received payments, marking a new era of community cooperation. Alhaji Muftau Shittu, leader of the host community’s development association, expressed gratitude for the federal government’s commitment to regenerating their land after years of neglect and conflict over ownership.
Beyond textiles, the SEZ will also house hubs for ICT, agro-industries, and sports development, making it a cornerstone for regional transformation. As Dr. Ogunyemi emphasised, “The Lekki SEZ is not just a project; it’s a beacon of hope for sustainable growth and progress.”
