The Chairman of the House Committee on FCT, Honourable Aliyu Betara, has donated N100 million to support victims of the Maiduguri flood.

Betara who represents Biu/Bayo/Shani and Kwaya Kusar Federal Constituency of Borno State presented the donation to Governor Babagana Zulum during an on-site visit to the disaster area.

Betara expressed deep sympathy for those affected, commending Governor Zulum’s swift response.

He promised continued support for flood victims through necessary interventions, ensuring their rehabilitation.

“I stand with the people of Maiduguri and pledge my full support,” Betara said, also promising to raise the issue as a matter of urgent public importance when the House resumes.

Speaking on the current trend of flooding across the country, NEMA’s Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar indicated that 29 States and 172 LGAs have been impacted by flooding, affecting 1,048,312 people, displaced 625,239 and have led to the death of 259 lives.

The flood in Borno State has claimed 37 lives, displaced thousands, and devastated livelihoods across the city.
