The Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC, has ordered the deployment of more voter registration machines to some of the registration centres in Edo, in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in the state.

The Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, gave the directive on Thursday in Benin, when he visited some of the registration centres in the state to access the ongoing executive.

Yakubu, who had gone to Edo State to assess the extent of damage following a flood, commended the massive turnout of prospective registrants at different centres in the state, and assured them that INEC would do everything possible to make the process seamless.

At the registration centre located Western Boys Secondary School, Ward 2, Ikpoba Okha LGA, Yakubu directed that two additional machines, Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), be mobilised to the centre.

According to the INEC boss, the most important thing is to expedite the process hence the decision for two additional machines to the centre, to make it five machines.

He noted that of the two queues, one is for registration, while the other is for transfer and collection of cards but with the additional machines, they are going to reorganise the queues.

Yakubu, also directed that additional registration machines be deployed to the INEC Ikpoba Okha LGA Office, just as he also monitored the exercise at Eweka Primary School in Use Ward 3, Egor LGA.

He warned staff of the commission, not to demand for or receive money from anybody who comes out for the exercise before registering them

Yakubu said that the Commission would meet with the state commissioner of Police and other security agencies in the state to address the concern of some political parties trying to hijack the exercises in favour of their supporters.

Some prospective registrants on the queue who commended INEC for the exercise, urged the commission to mobilise more registration machines to fast track the registration process.
