Eid Mubarak: Grace Ike Makes Case For Journalists, Celebrates Muslims

The Chairperson of the House of Representatives Press Corps and Vice Chairman Correspondents Chapel NUJ FCT, Comrade Grace Ike, has called on media organisations, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to take concrete measures towards enhancing the welfare of journalists, whom she described as the bedrock of democracy.
The Chairperson, who advocated for improved working conditions for journalists, spoke as she joined the Muslim community to celebrate the end of Ramadan and the Eid al-Fitr celebration.
She said, “As Eid al-Fitr approaches, I extend heartfelt congratulations and warm wishes to Nigerian Muslim journalists and all citizens celebrating this joyous occasion.”
Comrade Ike, noted that the recently concluded month of Ramadan symbolises “a time of reflection, compassion, and generosity, where individuals and communities come together to support one another and extend kindness to those in need and the less privileged.
According to her, “In the spirit of this sacred month and celebration of Eid, it is crucial to address the challenges faced by journalists and ensure they receive the support and recognition they deserve.”
She further noted that journalists play a critical role in our society, serving as the watchdogs of democracy and guardians of truth adding that despite their indispensable contributions, many journalists continue to face inadequate pay, long hours, job insecurity, and even safety risks in the course of their work.
Comrade Ike is of the opinion that by investing in the well-being of journalists, we not only uphold the principles of justice and equity but also safeguard the integrity and independence of the media, which is essential for the functioning of a healthy democracy.
She acknowledged that both journalists and Nigerians in general face the current economic challenges in the country and encouraged everyone to embrace the values of empathy, solidarity, and charity.
While wishing Muslim families a blessed Eid filled with happiness, love, and prosperity Comrade Ike, implored them to remember the less fortunate and extend support to those in need, praying that this Eid al-Fitr be a time of joy, renewal, and blessings for all.
