The people of Ihiagwa Ancient Kingdom in Owerri West local government area, Imo State, have honoured the immediate past Chairman of Ihiagwa Town Management Committee, (ITMC), Engr. Dr. Emeka Udokporo, at the 2023 Ihiagwa Clan Day Celebration held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Ihiagwa, for unifying the community and turning it to one of the most developed city in the South East.
In view of that, the Ihiagwa Ancient Kingdom presented an extraordinary award to
Engr Udokporo for successfully conducting the affairs of the community for sixteen years.
Speaking while presenting the award to Engr. Udokporo, the traditional ruler of Ihiagwa Ancient Kingdom, Eze Lucky Ifeanyichukwu Ajoku, eulogized Udokporo’ s effective leadership, which he said had turned Ihiagwa into a mega city.
Eze Ajoku praised Udokporo-led administration for transforming Ihiagwa Ofo Asato into a city of repute. He opined that during the sixteen years of Udokporo’s administration, Ihiagwa Ofo-Asato recorded tremendous achievements in the areas of peace, unity, security, infrastructure, education, etc.
He said that Udokporo-led administration built the followings: an Ultra modern civic center, Police Division, construction of modern primary school blocks, Establishment of a functional vigilante, provision of scholarships to some indigenes of Ihiagwa clan, to mention but a few.
Eze Ajoku, while thanking Udokporo for the peace, unity and progress which his administration brought to Ihiagwa, said that no one had received the extraordinary honour since the history of Ihiagwa except Engr. Udokporo
During the occasion, a women group from Umuchima presented a song composed in honour of Engr. Udokporo’ in expression of their happiness over his good and purposeful leadership.
Different cultural groups performed during the event, including the Mmanwu masquerade brought by the youths of Ihiagwa.
Speaking, Engr. Udokporo’ thanked the community for honouring him and said that he could not have achieved much without the collective effort of the people of Ihiagwa.
Urging the new leadership to perform better than him, he assured of guiding them in their activities to enable them succeed.
The Community however presented an award of honour to some illustrious sons and daughters of Ihiagwa Ofo-Asato in recognition of their numerous contributions to the growth and development of the Community.
