Count Down: Three Days To Media and Development Conference 2023

It is exactly three days to the Media and Development Conference 2023 which is expected to host at least 250 media and technology experts, civil society and the international community at the Abuja Continental Hotel, from the 13th to 15th of November, 2023.

Nigeria’s Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani’s keynote address will explore the theme, “Accelerating Collective Prosperity through Technical Efficiency: The Roles of Media and Civil Society in Implementing Nigeria’s Strategic Plan.”

It is also expected that the two-day conference will feature several engaging discussions, thought-provoking dialogues, and valuable insights exploring West Africa’s evolving developmental challenges, the interplay of media and innovation, crucial sustainable development strategies, and the pivotal role of media in advancing democracy and championing sustainability in the region.

The Media and Development Conference 2023, will host three exclusive events- Media Development Hackathon a platform for creative minds from various backgrounds, including journalism, data analysis, and technology.

The event will support and foster innovative solutions for issues that impact the media landscape in Africa.

The UDEME project, in collaboration with Dataphyte, and with support from the Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) and the Luminate Group will host the Media Development hackathon on 15 November, 2023 on the sidelines of #MDC23.

Also a Legislative Advocacy Dialogue that is expected to explore critical issues around journalists’ safety and press, and explore possible legislative reforms with support from the Heinrich Böll Foundation will also hold on 15th November, 2023.

The 2023 Kwame Karikari Fellowship Dinner will then take place on the evening of 15 November 2023, to celebrate and recognize the dedication and outstanding achievements of 21 Kwame Karikari Fact-checking fellows.

These and numerous other exciting events are expected at the conference which is hoped will form a gathering ground at efforts aimed at shaping the future of journalism and its impact on inclusive and sustainable development in West Africa.
