The hierarchy of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies have re-assured Nigerians of their commitment and pact to ensuring the safety of all Nigerians.
The Directorate of Defence Media Operations at its bi-weekly briefing on troops activities and operational successes recorded in the various operational theaters in the six geo-political zones of the country asked the media to be partners in progress in its military operations in the country.
The Director Defence Information, Major General James Akpor, who made the plea while responding to questions at the brifing, cautioned journalists to be wary of what they publish as promoting bandits videos or statements will only aggravate tension in the country.
He noted that such promotion led some soldiers into ambush and called for synergy between the press and the military so as to ensure unity of purpose.
The Director, Defence Information reminded journalists that theirs is a sacred duty to safeguard their environment through informed reportage, saying that as such, they have a duty which is to preach hope of a better Nigeria to the citizenry.
On his part, the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Bernard Oyeuko, who had earlier reeled out the significant success story of troops in kinetic and non-kinetic operations in the past 2 weeks, implored the press to assist them in the war against banditry in the country.
According to him, with the recent operations carried out from 23rd July, they are assuring citizens especially residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, that they are undaunted and unrelenting in their efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property and enjoined the people to go about their normal businesses without fear as their safety is guaranteed.
He, however, sought the support and cooperation of all Nigerians, saying that security is everybody’s business and encouraged citizens to report any unusual persons or actions in their communities to security agencies.
