NUJ FCT Hails Benjamins-Laniyi For Championing Women’s Leadership In Media

The push to get more women into media leadership and ensure persons with disabilities are better represented has earned Dr Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi commendation from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, as she marks her birthday.

The council, in a congratulatory statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, praised the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development (MBNCWD) for her commitment to women’s advancement and inclusive leadership.

Ike described Benjamins-Laniyi’s leadership as a blend of strategic vision, courage and commitment to equity, noting that her advocacy has helped create opportunities for women journalists to take up leadership positions and contribute to public discourse and policymaking.

She also commended the director-general for promoting the inclusion of persons with disabilities, saying her efforts had strengthened institutional attention to accessibility and representation.

Beyond her policy initiatives, Ike said Benjamins-Laniyi is admired for her integrity, compassion and collaborative approach to leadership.

She added that the director-general had strengthened the centre’s role in gender-responsive leadership, capacity building and advocacy.

The NUJ FCT Council reaffirmed its commitment to working with Benjamins-Laniyi to advance gender equality, promote women’s leadership in the media and support the empowerment of Nigerians.

The council wished her good health, renewed strength and greater accomplishments in the years ahead.
