Women of Anambra State living in Abuja have been challenged to move beyond ceremonial leadership and champion economic empowerment, family welfare and cultural preservation within their communities.

President-General of the Anambra State Towns People Association (ASTPA), Abuja Chapter, Chief (Sir) Arinze Anadu, gave the charge during the inauguration of the association’s Women’s Wing at the FCT Christians Pilgrimage Welfare Board, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja.

Anadu urged the newly inaugurated executives to prioritise support for widows, struggling mothers and young girls through skills acquisition, cooperative schemes and mentorship programmes.

He also tasked them with preserving the Igbo language and cultural identity among Anambra families in Abuja, while promoting unity and responding to challenges affecting members.

“It is time to give structure to their passion. It is time to give voice to their vision. It is time to give power to their purpose,” he declared.

Describing the inauguration as a turning point, Anadu said women had long contributed to the association through fundraising, mobilisation and family welfare, stressing that they deserved a stronger voice in community development.

He reminded the executives that leadership was a responsibility, not an opportunity to acquire titles, urging them to serve with wisdom, humility and integrity.

In response, the newly inaugurated Chairlady, Mrs Amaka Onuora, pledged to promote unity, strengthen cooperation with the parent association, and introduce initiatives to improve members’ welfare.

She assured members that the Women’s Wing would operate within ASTPA’s constitution while pursuing programmes that would advance the association’s objectives.
