66th Independence: PCRC Chairman Urges Nigerians To Choose Peace, Unity

As Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary, the National Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, has urged Nigerians to reject violence, criminality and hate speech, stressing that peace and security require the collective effort of citizens.

Olaniyan, in his Independence Day message, called for greater tolerance, unity and responsible citizenship, saying Nigerians must work together to build a peaceful, secure and prosperous nation.

He said the anniversary was an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of the country’s founding fathers and the responsibility of present-day citizens to protect Nigeria’s unity and development.

The PCRC chairman reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to strengthening trust and cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and communities, noting that effective policing depends on meaningful engagement and mutual respect.

Olaniyan also pledged continued support for the PCRC Safe School Programme, aimed at protecting children and promoting safer learning environments through collaboration among schools, communities and security agencies.

He commended police officers and other security personnel for their sacrifices, while urging PCRC members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to uphold discipline, integrity, compassion and respect for the law.

Olaniyan said building the Nigeria citizens desire was a shared responsibility, urging everyone to contribute to the country’s peace, security and development.

He wished Nigerians a peaceful Independence Day and prayed for the protection of security personnel, children and families across the country.
