Nigeria at 66: ‘We Must Not Lose Faith In Nigeria’ – FCC Bos

Nigeria’s challenges may be real, but the country’s potential and the responsibility to build a more equitable nation remain greater.

The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, made the call in her Independence Day message marking Nigeria’s 66th anniversary, urging citizens to renew their faith in the country, strengthen national unity and work towards a more inclusive and prosperous Nigeria.

She said the anniversary should serve not only as a celebration of independence but also as an opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s journey, recognise its progress and confront its challenges.

According to her, equitable representation remains central to national cohesion, stressing that the effective application of the Federal Character Principle can strengthen citizens’ sense of belonging and confidence in the Nigerian project.

“We must not lose faith in Nigeria. The challenges before us are real, but so are the opportunities and the enormous human and natural resources available to us.”

The FCC chairman urged government institutions to uphold fairness, equity, accountability and inclusive governance, while calling on citizens to support efforts to strengthen national institutions and promote peaceful coexistence.

She also charged young Nigerians to pursue education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, innovation and sports, describing them as critical stakeholders in the country’s future.

Omidiran said building the Nigeria of the future was a collective responsibility requiring the commitment of leaders and citizens across all parts of the federation.

She reaffirmed the FCC’s commitment to promoting equitable representation and inclusive national development, while wishing Nigerians at home and abroad peace, stability and prosperity.

“Let us continue to choose unity over division, service over self-interest and hope over despair.

The Nigeria of our dreams is possible if we all play our part,” she said.
